LOST IN WISHFUL THINKING

An open letter to the RNA

you've got me flying high

Dear RNA (Royal National Association),

I would like to say that you do a great job, I love the Ekka. I have to say that I am a dedicated fan; in my past 20 years, I don't think there is a year I haven't been. I have become attached to the Ekka, and your beautiful old buildings, I will be sad to see a lot of them go. In 2010 I was feeling teary when looking at the empty space where my chairlift used to be, and this year I missed my Ferris Wheel as the temporary Showbag pavillion needed to be there instead, despite this, you still are great, and I will not complain. It is because of you, that I get the chance to go all sooky over the cute little (and big) animals, wear my riding boots to fit in with all the lucky country folk and watch your brilliant fireworks. I usually really dislike crowds, but the Ekka is the one place where I can happily excuse them.

I am so disappointed that people have used the Ekka's Facebook page to complain endlessly about minor things. I think the new ice cream was AMAZING (how could you not prefer home-made over factory-made?), and I understand that you had limited space this year since renovations are being done for the old showbag pavillion -so you had to put it somewhere else (to keep all those showbag-lovers happy).

I would like to say Thankyou for putting on an amazing show for 10 days every August. I can't wait to go again next year.

Love always,
Hannah

This year I went to the Ekka twice. Sunday and Wednesday (today), I tried to take alot of photos of the buildings( or at least their insides) because at the end of a 15 year renovation period, they will all be gone.

Lovely post and beautiful photos! I love the Ekka too (I have so many happy memories of it). It's a shame to see the old buildings transform ... but it's nice to know there will always be a home for the Ekka.
