Vacant Lake

Abbey

Since school I have not made many new friends, but the ones I have made are beautiful and wonderful. One of these friends is the super stylish Abbey, who runs a hip little fashion/style blog called Vacant Lake. A few weeks back we ran about her suburb in the rain and snapped some outfits.

Isabel by the Sea

Last Saturday, Isabel and I decided to venture on a mini trip to Wynnum, after our daytrip to Darlington with another friend had to be postponed. We wandered through the many op-shops on the main street, ate cheesy muffins and Red Velvet cupcakes and strolled along the pier!

I excitedly loaded up my Minolta SRT-101 for the trip, having not used the handsome camera since early last year (put off by my 365 project). In the past it has produced the most amazing quality images (examples here and here). However tragedy occurred when mid-focus, the lens un-screwed itself from the camera body and fell onto the concrete (narrowly missing the sea)!! Most of the images I shot after that incident have an odd haziness to them (I am sure you can spot what I mean by the images that lack contrast). If anyone has a working MC Rokkor PF 58mm lens they would like to sell to me at a cheap price-that would be much appreciated :)

she hears whispers

Lucky for us, the sun washed away the rain, and we ran around the city streets as if it were summer.

Mapleton

Photobucket
Photos taken on a recent weekend daytrip to Mapleton through a disposable camera. The rainy weather created a rather lovely mood I think!
I shot a lot more images on my Nikon EM, however I had not loaded the roll properly, which meant the film was not being pulled through, therefore no pictures were actually shot! I have a lot to master in the world of film photography.

Have a lovely weekend!

Canonet Junior - test roll

Photobucket

For Christmas last year Jean bought me a Canonet Junior (35mm film) camera. I was too busy with my 365 to test it until recent months. I was also rather wary of its focusing function - looking through the viewfinder does not show the focus point, which meant a lot of guessing was involved. When the film was processed I found that this camera is not one for closeup shots of flowers, and other things that I can't recall from the out-of-focus images they created! For the few times that I did manage to gain a fairly acceptable focus, I am happy with the results, though next time I will use a lower ASA film (I used Kodak 400), as the camera can only be set to a maximum ASA of 200.

my love is dead, I buried it in falling leaves

In the last week of my 365 project, Brittney and I visited this local maple tree, in order to frolic amongst the last of its autumn leaves (and photograph the process too). I think I need to focus on planning more simple shoots like this, and just getting better at photographing that way, rather than putting lots of time (that I don't have) into large projects at the moment. Baby steps are all I have time for. Hope you enjoy. x

(I also had to share this scene  i stopped to shoot on our way to the maple tree: 56 cockatoos or corellas - my theory is that they are waiting for their afternoon tea at a house just around the corner from me.)
